Behavioral Observations in Frisco, TX

You (mom and dad) and at least one teacher or school counselor who is familiar with your child is asked to complete a checklist of behaviors that your child might exhibit that may be challenging or troubling. For example, some behaviors Dr. Jimenez wants to know about are ticks, biting, relationships with peers, distracting the class, and extracurricular activities. Knowing these behaviors gives Dr. Jimenez an understanding of what you and the teacher(s) are seeing regarding the actions of your child and if those behaviors are typical of someone of the same age and gender as your child.  We (mom, dad, and Dr. Jimenez) want to know what is standing out about their behavior so that we can better understand it and find solutions at home and in school, if necessary.

When we understand how your child’s behaviors relate to other kids of their own sex and gender, we begin to get a fuller picture of what daily life might be like for your child and your expectations of them.  For example, Dr. Jimenez worked with a child whose parents thought his behavior was somewhat annoying and was related to having a new sister and thus, having less attention at home.  When Dr. Jimenez scored the assessment and realized his behavior was worse than the parents thought—at home and at school—she was able to give solid recommendations regarding freedom within structure for the child.  By giving the parents some tools to help the child gain the attention he sought in HEALTHY WAYS instead of harmful ways, the family left feeling like they had concrete tools to help their child succeed at home, at school, and in life.

Seeing The Bigger Picture

Behavioral issues can be challenging for parents—especially when nothing you have tried seems to help.  When the behavioral observation testing is included in the assessment, it creates a fuller picture of the child’s life and allows Dr. Jimenez into their world without having to leave the office.  By being in their world in that way, Dr. Jimenez can create recommendations that fall in line with the bigger pictures of what is going on with your child.  The behavioral assessment comes in the form of a survey filled out by mom, dad, and at least one school teacher or counselor.

Dr. Jimenez has worked with children and adolescents for her entire adult life.  She is passionate about helping younger ones by helping the children themselves directly through therapy and through providing assessments to help get a big picture of the child’s family, school, and inner life.

Dr. Jimenez loves to give back to her community in this way.  She works within the model of wellness to assess your child which means that she sees your child for all that they are, not just as a number on a test, a diagnosis, or a problem.  Children are a gift.  Dr. Jimenez is eager to ease the burden of children in today’s world and to help them thrive by empowering the parents with the tools and knowledge they need to help and advocate for their children!
